Micro-/Nano-plastic exposure on placental health and adverse pregnancy risks: A novel assessment system based upon TRAEC strategy
Micro-/Nano-plastics (MNPs) detected in maternal and fetal placenta pose reproductive toxicity risks. Applying the TRAEC strategy, 40 studies on MNP toxicity to placenta scored 5.63, indicating moderate-low risk, possibly escalating with smaller particle size. Our experiments show high-dose 50 nm and 200 nm PS-NPs induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in placenta cells, disrupting mitochondrial function and causing reproductive toxicity. This study offers insights into MNPs' potential reproductive health impacts using TRAEC.
