At the invitation of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Professor Yankai Xia, Vice President of Nanjing Medical University, delivered a special academic lecture at the UFZ Conference Center in Leipzig, Germany, on May 21, 2026. This lecture series is an important academic exchange platform established by UFZ for leading international scholars in the fields of environment and health, regularly inviting renowned experts from around the world to share the latest advances in environmental science and health research.
The lecture was chaired by Professor Ana Zenclussen, Head of the Department of Environmental Immunology at UFZ. In his presentation entitled “Health Risk Assessment of Agrochemical Exposure Based on Multiple Strategies”, Professor Xia systematically introduced the background of health risk research on agrochemicals, methods for the identification and screening of agrochemicals, the rationale for risk assessment, representative studies on health effects and underlying mechanisms, the status of risk assessment, and the application of the TRAEC strategy in this field.

本次报告由UFZ环境免疫学部主任Ana Zenclussen教授主持。夏彦恺教授以《基于不同策略的农用化学品暴露健康风险评估》为题,系统介绍了农用化学品健康风险研究的背景、农用化学物识别和筛选方法、评估的背景、健康效应及机制研究示例、风险评估现状以及TRAEC在其中的应用。
Building a Multi-Dimensional Evidence-Integrated Risk Assessment Framework Through TRAEC
During the UFZ Healthy Planet Lecture, Professor Xia focused on the internationally important topic of environmental chemical exposure and health risk assessment. He presented his team’s recent research advances in exposomics, artificial intelligence-assisted risk identification, and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). In the context of developing a Next-Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) framework, he highlighted the practical applications of the TRAEC (Targeted Risk Assessment of Environmental Chemicals) strategy developed by his team for environmental chemical risk evaluation. Unlike traditional assessment approaches, TRAEC places greater emphasis on the coordinated integration of multiple lines of evidence. The framework systematically combines conventional experimental data, data generated through new approach methodologies, and epidemiological evidence to establish a more comprehensive risk profile, enabling the precise identification and prioritization of health risks associated with environmental chemical exposure.
以TRAEC为纽带,构建多维证据融合风险评估体系
在UFZ Healthy Planet Lecture专题报告中,夏彦恺教授围绕环境化学物暴露与健康风险评估这一国际热点议题,系统介绍了团队近年来在暴露组学(Exposomics)、人工智能辅助风险识别以及新方法学(New Approach Methodologies,NAMs)领域的研究进展。结合下一代风险评估(NGRA)体系建设,夏彦恺教授重点介绍了团队建立的TRAEC策略在环境化学物风险评价中的应用实践。与传统评估模式不同,TRAEC更加注重不同证据链之间的协同整合。该体系能够将传统实验数据、新方法学实验数据以及流行病学证据进行系统融合,从而形成更加全面的风险画像,实现对环境化学物暴露健康风险的精准识别与优先排序。

Advancing International Collaborative Innovation and Building High-Level Cooperation Networks
As one of Germany’s largest environmental research institutions, UFZ possesses advanced research infrastructure and extensive international collaboration networks. The center has accumulated substantial expertise in environmental pollutant monitoring, environmental risk assessment, ecotoxicology, and environmental health research.
During the visit, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on environmental risk assessment based on the TRAEC strategy, joint research projects, and the development of international cooperation platforms. They reached broad consensus on establishing long-term and stable collaborative partnerships in the future.
